African farmers gathering hay Activities

During the first phase of Sustainet, which runs until the end of 2006, various activities will be conducted in cooperation with the Sustainet partners. These include:

  • Development of an analysis matrix to assess the potential for scaling up selected positive experiences (best practices) in the field of sustainable agriculture.

  • Evaluation of project experiences through local partners (self-evaluation) and assessment of each project's scaling-up potential in the pilot countries India, Tanzania/Kenya, Peru/Bolivia and Brazil. This is to take place at the evaluation workshops.

  • Establishment of local and international communication structures
    Access to a communication platform (phprojekt/Sustainet Groupware) will be provided to all project participants via the Sustainet homepage. The platform shall be used to exchange information and experiences, and to plan joint activities.

  • Presentation of the results of the self-evaluation in publications on the lessons learned. The analysed best practices will be presented and placed in a systematic context according to the following aspects:
    Project structure
    Consulting approach
    Agricultural technology
    Local environmental conditions
    External framework conditions
    Project impacts
    Dissemination of instruments

  • Supracontinental systematic analysis of best practices and identification of instruments for scaling them up above and beyond their previous users

  • Exchange of experiences and strategic dialogue between actors in the partner countries and in German and international development cooperation, such as the United Nations' Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and the World Bank
