SUSTAINET has established networks of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in Germany (Steering Group) and in the pilot countries (India, Kenya, Tanzania, Peru and Bolivia). Internationally SUSTAINET cooperates with the UN Food and Agriculture Organization - FAO, and in particular with its Sustainable Agriculture and Rural Development Initiative and its Conservation Agriculture Project. The website provides the partners with an information and communication platform.

In the pilot regions, fundamental research was carried out on the theme of sustainable agriculture. The partner organisations in the pilot countries carried out self-evaluations of their projects, applying the criteria for dissemination of sustainable agriculture. They identified good agricultural practices which meet the criteria for scaling up, and carried out additional analyses of the political context in their countries.

In a next step, joint Writeshops were held where the results were discussed, consolidated and finally documented in publications. The results collected in these publications are now being used in political dialogue to lobby for sustainable agriculture.

Based on this foundation of experience, research institutions in Germany have developed analysis and decision-making tools on good practice and the scaling up of sustainable agriculture.

The above experience, practices and scaling-up strategies directly inform the work of the partners in Germany and in the pilot countries, and that of the FAO cooperation partners. They remain the basis for political lobbying work. The documented findings provide compelling evidence that large-scale sustainable agriculture is possible!

Full details of all the documents and tools can be found in our Information Office.
